New Century Players Children's Theatre

New Century Players in conjunction with the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation summer program, offers a two week theatre camp.

The camp is designed for children ages 7-13. It runs every weekday for two weeks from 9AM to 1PM. It takes place at Rex Putnam High School, and several of the Rex Putnam drama students work as counselors under the guidance of an adult director.

The children audition and get their parts on the first day of camp. We ensure there is a part for everyone. Once the show is cast, the rest of the camp time is spent in rehearsal. The children participate in theatre games designed to develop their improvisation, memorization and listening skills and work as a team as part of the rehearsal process. If a child is not rehearsing their part at a given time, they will also help construct costumes and sets with the high school counselors.

Our camp culminates in two performances for the public at the end of the two-week period.

Summer 2009 will be our fourth year offering a summer theatre program for youth. Our show this summer will be The Wizard of Oz. We plan to deviate from our usual summer camp format and instead of two performances in one day at the end of the two week camp, we will bring the children into New Century Players' full run of The Wizard of Oz, where they will get to work with adult actors in eight actual performances over a two-week period. We are very excited about presenting this unique opportunity for our youth actors.
